Repairs
All repairs are made in a traditional manner. I use the glue that is appropriate for a specific situation, and well seasoned woods only. You can expect a relatively quick turnaround, allowing for quality of work at a reasonable price.
The information presented on this page is meant to give a brief overview of some repairs performed in my shop.
This is a full service double bass repair shop, which means I do the following:
- Assessment – general overview of the health of the instrument
- Set-up to your style
- New bridge, perfect fit to the top with the sound post / bass–bar relationship in mind, and installation of adjusters if you prefer
- Refit existing sound post; install new sound post
- Crack repair with cleats, usually without removal of the top
- Re-glue top and back separation from rib [side] repair
- Corner replacement
- Neck reset
- Button graft
- Fingerboard adjustment or replacement
- Tone adjustment (see setup)
- Varnish and retouching
- Re-glue bass bar
- Fine polish or french polish
